Water Quality Across Our Nation

National Postcard Campaign

There is no federal mandate for testing the quality of water in our Nation’s schools. Only 25 States and the District of Columbia have school drinking water testing programs. Out of the 25 States, only 8 States and the District of Columbia mandate testing while the other 16 State programs are voluntary.

Postcards were sent to state officials, around the country, providing them with information about their schools' water quality. This information was published in a report published by the Environment America Research and Policy Center, Mar. 2019,

St. Bonaventure Indian Mission and School

While researching about water quality in schools across the United States, we were shocked to learn that so many families in our country, do not have easy access to water. One community we learned about is the St. Bonaventure Indian Mission and School. St. Bonaventure is a Catholic Native American school on the Navajo Nation in New Mexico. The Eastern Navajo Nation is located in a dry, barren environment. Water is very limited. 250 families rely on a water truck to deliver and fill their two 55 gallon barrels, bi-weekly, with potable water to meet the families daily water needs for drinking, cooking, bathing, and cleaning. Aqua Leaders, raised funds, and made a $500 donation to St. Bonaventure to support their water delivery program.
